Stedman's Illustrated Dictionary of Dermatology Eponyms

Stedman's Illustrated Dictionary of Dermatology Eponyms

Price: $42.95

Quantity:

This is the indispensable solution to those problematic eponyms that constitute some of the hardest medical terminology for any healthcare professional to absorb and recall. Typically an eponym bears no apparent association with the disease, condition, or medical term it represents. For example, Cronkhite-Canada Syndrome gives no indication of what the syndrome is, or who are the people for which it is named? With this one reliable, efficient resource, you can obtain the complete meaning of more than 1,000 dermatologic eponyms and use them precisely every time.

Inside you’ll find:

  • More than 1,000 entries of up-to-date definitions and detailed illustrations of common and not-so-common dermatologic eponyms, making this volume the most comprehensive reference on dermatology eponyms ever written.
  • Capsule summaries of the eponymous term help provide meaningful definitions to enable efficient recall and accurate usage
  • Concise biographic information for each entry gives a brief but broader context for the term to reinforce comprehension and strengthen your mastery of dermatologic terminology
  • Black-and-white photographs of selected individuals put faces to names of the individuals who are given eponymous credit
  • A useful 16-page insert of clinical illustrations presents obscure or rare conditions for more comprehensive coverage
  • A complete Acronyms & Abbreviations list, the most comprehensive compilation in dermatology to date.

This is a valuable reference for every physician, nurse, and physician-assistant practicing dermatology and dermatopathology. It will also be very useful to medical transcriptionists and medical record personnel who work with dermatology records and scholars of medical history and language.

Customer Reviews
The authors have done a commendable job in what seems to be an exhaustive compendium of dermatologic pioneers, whose names have become synonymous with diseases that we know so well. Whether you choose to use this book for one-upsmanship on grand rounds, for helping out with that "on the tip of my tongue" iotaderma answer, or just for an enjoyable read, I'm sure everyone will appreciate the addition of this book to their collection. -Paul Anthony Carbonaro, MD Voorhees, NJ; September 28, 2005
The history of dermatology is enormously rich, and peopled by colorful legends, many of whose names were attached to specific syndomes.Unfotunately, in this digital age, when diseases are essentially documented either by numbers,or by acronyms, these eponyms seem to be uttered less and less, and we risk losing much of the history that makes the field such fun. Barankin et al. have performed a very valuable service in compiling this very comprehensive, and fasciating dictionary of dermatologic eponyms, which summarizes not only the clinical findings in the various named syndromes, but also brief supporting bibliographies. Also included are photographs of some of the dermatological giants, and some clinical illustrations. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in the hisoty of the field. Well worth the investment ! Caroline S. Koblenzer, M.D. ; April 24, 2005
